I’m Charlotte Englefield, a contemporary artist based in Wiltshire, working from my studio near Castle Combe, in a beautiful little hamlet called Long Dean, on the edge of the Cotswolds. I’m constantly inspired by the world around me. The changing light, the beauty of the countryside and the smallest details in nature never cease to amaze me. I’m often reminded of just how incredible creation is, and I love trying to capture some of that beauty in my paintings. Working mainly in acrylics, I’m drawn to realism and the challenge of capturing the depth, detail and subtle changes of light that make a painting feel alive. I build up my paintings slowly, working in layers of colour before softening and blending with translucent glazes. It’s a process that takes patience, but I love seeing a painting gradually come together. My love of art started when I was very young. I spent hours drawing and painting horses, and even made showjumping courses for my dog, Polly, and my imaginary pony! I went on to study art at GCSE, A level and Foundation level, with every intention of pursuing it further. Life, however, took me in a different direction and I went on to work in healthcare. Painting gradually took a back seat, although I never quite lost my love for it. It wasn’t until after the birth of my third child that I picked up a paintbrush again, initially as a way to relax. Before long, I was completely absorbed in painting once more. In 2019, I made the decision to leave my work in the hospice and pursue art full-time. A few years later, with art materials gradually taking over our home, I began looking for somewhere of my own to work. In 2022, I found just the place. A lovely little studio in Long Dean, near Castle Combe, surrounded by the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. It’s become my own little haven, somewhere to paint, experiment and enjoy the peace and quiet, as well as welcome visitors and run small, friendly art workshops.

My light and airy studio is set in a peaceful spot, with lovely countryside views. It’s a wonderful place to escape the everyday for a few hours and enjoy doing something creative. Whether you’ve always wanted to try painting or simply fancy a relaxing day doing something different, my workshops are friendly, informal and open to all abilities.
