Painting Animal Fur & Features – A 4 Week Animal Painting Course with Charlotte Englefield Learn how to paint realistic animal fur, eyes, paws, ears and other intricate features through a series of close-up studies. Whether you’re completely new to painting, have a little experience, or already enjoy painting animals, this 4-week painting course is designed to develop your painting techniques, improve your understanding of detail and build your confidence. Over the four weeks, we’ll create a series of close-up animal studies, focusing on the individual features that bring an animal to life. Rather than painting an entire animal, we’ll zoom in and explore areas such as fur, eyes, paws, ears and other distinctive features. You’ll learn how to observe different textures and translate them into paint, using brushwork, layering, colour and careful attention to detail to create realistic results. What you’ll explore Each week will focus on a different close-up animal study, looking at: * Different types and textures of animal fur * Creating realistic and expressive eyes * Painting paws, ears and other detailed features * Building realistic texture through multiple layers of paint * Using different brush techniques to create fine detail * Understanding colour, light, form and texture * Developing confidence when tackling intricate animal studies The focus is on understanding how and why the techniques work, rather than simply following a finished painting. The skills you develop can then be applied to your own animal paintings and future projects. Suitable for all abilities No previous painting experience is needed. The course is suitable for beginners as well as those who already enjoy painting animals and want to develop their animal painting techniques and confidence. Each study is painted onto sheets of canvas, giving you the freedom to decide what to do with your finished work. Your paintings can be stretched onto a frame, framed as they are, or simply kept safely in a folder as a collection of studies. The course can be taken as a standalone 4-week class, or as part of an ongoing series of animal studies. Each course will explore different animals, features and techniques, gradually helping you develop a deeper understanding of my painting process and build on the skills you’ve learned.
